Police use force against agitating SP workers

Lucknow, Feb 21 (PTI) Police resorted to baton chargeto disperse Samajwadi Party workers, who gheraoed UttarPradesh Vidhan Sabha in support of their MLA staging anindefinite sit-in inside the house.

A large number of of SP workers assembled outside thestate Vidhan Sabha tonight and gheraoed the complex whereparty''s elected members are staging a dharna to protestagainst sine die adjournment of the house, official sourcessaid here.

The police lathicharged the SP workers, who blockedroads, sources said, adding that the they used force as theactivists were trying to enter the house. Several workers havebeen injured in the use of the force.

Meanwhile, senior SP leader and MLA Ambika Chaudharysaid that the dharna would continue till their demands weremet. Almost 100 MLAs of SP and RLD are staging dharna insidethe house with some squatting in the well to press for theirdemand.

A team of doctors examined RLD MLA Puran Prakash, whowas reportedly ill, due to observing fast unto death.
