Police inspector, aide arrested for possessing drugs
Mumbai, Feb 22 (PTI) Two persons, including a SeniorInspector of Maharashtra police, were today arrested fromcentral Mumbai for allegedly possessing and trying to sell1.54 kg brown sugar worth Rs 15 lakh, police said.
Acting on a tip off, a trap was laid near Worli Hill areaand the two accused, Ashok Dhawale (53), Senior Inspector ofstate police''s Protection of Civic Rights and his aide AmarSingh (45) were nabbed, they said.
"Brown sugar weighing 1.54 kg was found in theirpossession and their four wheeler was also seized. The cost ofthe drugs is Rs 15 lakh in the domestic market," a SeniorCrime Branch official told PTI.
The duo was booked under relevant sections of NarcoticDrugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and they would beproduced before a local court tomorrow, police said adding theaccused were being interrogated to find out the source ofdrugs and to whom they came here to sell.
Investigators were also probing if any more cops wereassociated with Dhawale in the drug racket, police said addingthey suspect that drugs might have been smuggled into the cityfrom outside Maharashtra. Further probe was on.
