Pakistani kidnapping syndicate busted in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, Feb 22 (ANI): The Malaysian Police have busted a syndicate of Pakistani men who kidnapped rich compatriots here and demanded huge ransoms from their families back home.

"They targeted successful businessmen operating in the Klang Valley," said city police chief Deputy Commander Zulkifli Abdullah.

At 2 a.m. on Saturday, police received a tip-off that one such businessman had been kidnapped.

"A team from the Kuala Lumpur Serious Crime Unit followed the suspects to an apartment in Jalan Perhentian, off Jalan Ipoh," The Star quoted Abdullah, as saying.

At 4am, they stormed the apartment and arrested four suspects and rescued three victims, aged between 28 and 35.

"One of the suspects tried to escape by jumping from the third floor unit, but he suffered a broken right arm," said Abdullah.

Investigations revealed that the suspects would contact the victims' families in Pakistan for the ransom money.

One of the kidnappers told police that they had been operating since last year and admitted that they had pulled off seven such cases. (ANI)
