Prez says CWG was a great success, lauds Delhiites
New Delhi, Feb 21 (PTI) President Pratibha Patil todaydescribed the Commonwealth Games held here in October lastyear as a "great success" and lauded Delhiites for showing"exemplary discipline and courtesy".
Addressing a joint sitting of Parliament on the openingday of the Budget session, she also noted that sportspersonsof the country secured "an unprecedented medal tally" in theevent.
"The Commonwealth Games in October last were a greatsuccess. Our sportspersons secured an unprecedented medaltally. The citizens of Delhi displayed exemplary disciplineand courtesy," she said.
"We are proud of these achievements," Patil said.
The Commonwealth Games were held in Delhi from October 3to 14 last year. A total of 6,081 athletes from 71Commonwealth nations and dependencies took part in it.
India clinched 101 medals, the highest so far by thecountry in Commonwealth Games.
