Polling personnel to get remuneration directly at bank account

Suri (WB), Feb 20 (PTI) Remuneration of thoseappointed as polling personnel at Birbhum district in theforthcoming state Assembly elections would be crediteddirectly to their bank accounts, officials said today.

For those government and other employees, eligible tobe appointed polling personnel, who are appointed throughrandom selection, their fees would be credited to theirpersonal bank accounts.

Money would be transferred only after the first day oftraining they would attend.

"We expect this system to do well. We have experiencedmuch problem during the earlier election to disburse money.

Handling of huge amount cash needs a number of men. It willnot only save manpower but reduce the discomfort of thepolling personnel," district magistrate Saumitra Mohan said.

Since there are no specific guidelines of the ElectionCommission on the disbursement of remuneration, this way hasbeen devised as an experiment, the DM said.

Mohan was recently awarded by the EC for hisinnovative ideas to conduct elections.
