Nothing to do with Kalmadi''s demand for JPC, says Cong
New Delhi, Feb 21 (PTI) Congress today distanced itselffrom party MP Suresh Kalmadi''s move seeking a JPC probe intothe Commonwealth Games issue, saying it was his independentview and the party has nothing to do with it.
"The party has nothing to do with it...He is obviouslyspeaking in his personal capacity. These are his independentviews. There is no question of party associating with it,"party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi told reporters here.
Kalmadi, who was sacked as the CWG OrganisingCommittee chairman, yesterday demanded a JPC probe into allissues relating to the mega sporting event amid reports thatCBI has tracked an e-mail alleging that he got kickbacks.
The Congress spokesperson refused to comment on the casesaying "we do not believe in commenting on ongoing criminalproceedings. Where is the question of party commenting onon-going proceedings." He went on to add "Congress party doesnot constitute Organizing Committee of the Games".
Kalmadi has been questioned in connection with allegedirregularities in Commonwealth Games-related projects. Thereis a buzz that the CBI could arrest Kalmadi as theinvestigation proceeds.
The Congress member from Pune has been removed assecretary of Congress Parliamentary Party some six months backafter the controversy surfaced.
In a statement on the eve of the start of the BudgetSession of Parliament, the embattled sports administrator saidhe would resign as Member of Parliament in case any proof ofhim having taken even a single rupee surfaces.
