Liberia felicitates Indian envoy for Pravasi Bharatiya award

New Delhi, Feb 20 (PTI) Liberia has felicitated Indianenvoy Upjit Singh Sachdeva for receiving the Pravasi BharatiyaSamman award from the President of India, saying it was areflection of his efforts in strengthening the bond offriendship between the two countries.

Sachdeva, the honorary Consul General of India in theAfrican nation, has engendered great appreciation andunderstanding of India through his interaction with officials,the private sector, ordinary citizens and civil society groupsin Liberia, a statement from the Liberian government said.

The diplomat, who is of Punjabi origin, is also recognisedfor playing a pivotal role in protecting the lives of Indiansand Liberians during the heat of the 1996-2003 civil wars inLiberia.
