Howrah Mayor beaten up

Howrah (WB), Feb 20 (PTI) Howrah Mayor Mamata Jaiswalwas tonight beaten up by locals here today after a scuffleover the demolition of a damaged building, police said.

Tenants and the owner of the building atMalipanchghara refused to oblige the local councillor''s orderof demolishing the building after a portion of it fell downlast night.

When Jaiswal went to the spot to solve the dispute,she was beaten up.

The locals, however, have lodged counter policecomplaints, alleging that Jaiswal had beaten them.

The Mayor is now admitted at a nursing home.
