Boy dies after falling into ditch filled with water

New Delhi, Feb 20 (PTI) An 11-year-old boy, who had comefrom Uttar Pradesh to the capital to visit his aunt, diedafter he fell into a ditch filled with water in Shalimar Bagharea in north-west Delhi, police said today.

Abhishek, who hails from Badayun in Uttar Pradesh, diedbefore he could be fished out of the ditch by one Ramdas, oneof the neighbours of his aunt, police said.

"The incident took place at 6 pm yesterday near a privatehospital�s under-construction site," a senior police officialsaid.

Abhishek was playing with his friends just yards awayfrom his aunt''s house.

He said Ramdas jumped into the ditch and was able to pushAbhishek out after a few minutes.

However, the victim had already stopped breathing by thattime.

Abhishek was rushed to the nearby Babu Jagjivan Ramhospital where he was declared brought dead.

Police is understood to be mulling criminal proceedingsagainst the contractor engaged by the hospital for theconstruction of the facility.
