13 commit suicide in Aizawl district

Aizawl, Feb 21 (PTI) At least 13 people have committedsuicide in Aizawl district during the past one and half month,Superintendent of Police Lalbiakthanga Khiangte said heretoday.

Most of those who committed suicide were young peoplereportedly suffering from depression due to various reasons,Khiangte told PTI.

"The suicide rate is alarming for a small state likeMizoram which hardly has a population of 10 lakh," he said.

Psychiatrists, psychologists and social workersattributed high suicide rate in the state to frustration amongthe youth due to rampant unemployment, social oppression anddrug addiction.
