Youth arrested for attempting to rape minor

Ghaziabad, Feb 20 (PTI) A youth was arrested heretoday for allegedly attempting to rape a minor Dalit girl inDhanpur village near here, police said.

The youth, identified as Ankit Gujjar, allegedlydragged the 15-year-old girl to a sugarcane field last eveningand tried to sexually assault her. The girl, however, managedto escape, the police said.

A criminal case under sections 323 (voluntarilycausing hurt), 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman withintent to outrage her modesty) and 504 (intentional insultwith intent to provoke breach of peace) has been registeredagainst the accused, they said.

The youth, who fled the spot after the failed attempt,was nabbed this morning and sent to jail, the police added.
