Girl burnt to death in Meerut

Meerut, Feb 20 (PTI) A 22-year-old girl died after shewas allegedly set afire by the husband of a panchayat head andtwo others in Narheda village, police said today.

Geeta, who succumbed to burn injuries in a hospital,in her dying declaration alleged that Mohammad Asif, thehusband of panchayat head Nasreen, had called her fatheryesterday to his house over a property dispute, but she wentthere as her father was not in the house.

Asif tried to molest her and when she resisted healong with his brother and a friend beat her up. They laterpoured kerosene on her and set her ablaze, she claimed beforedying.

Meerut DIG J N Singh said that Asif''s friend wasarrested early this morning, while search is on to nab theother two.
