Court seeks status of probe into CWG-linked graft cases
New Delhi, Feb 19 (PTI) A Delhi court has asked the CBIand the Delhi police to file a detailed report on the actiontaken by them so far on the complaints about allegedcorruption in the Commonmwealth Games-related casess.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Amit Bansal, ona petition filed by RTI activist Arvind Kejriwal, SwamiAgnivesh, former IPS officer Kiran Bedi, Yoga guru Baba Ramdevand others, has directed the CBI''s Anti-Corruption Branch andthe Parliament Street police station here to file its detailedreport.
In a petition to the court for a direction to the probeagencies to investigate the matter and lodge an FIR in thisregard, the petitioners have alleged that despite the massivecorruption in the Games-related works, only four FIRs havebeen registered till date.
They have alleged contracts were awarded forGames-related projects without following any procudure.
The petitioners have also alleged that despite the hueand cry by the media over corruption in holding last year''ssporting event, the government agencies have not done much tobook the corrupt and erring officials involved in thecorruption.
They have filed 18 complaints with the Parliament Streetpolice station as well as with the Anti-Corruption Branch ofthe Delhi Police and the CBI seeking registration of FIRand prosecution of persons, involved in irregularities, underthe IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The scale of corruption in the CWG has shaken theconscience of the entire nation and the guilty should bebrought to book so that they do not go unpunished for theirmisdeeds, the petitioners have submitted to the court.
The petitioners had earlier written a letter to the SP,CBI, on November 14 last year apprising him of the offences ofthe public servants as well as private persons involved in thecorruption in the Games-related works.
