US company launches ''knee system'' for Asian patients

Vadodara, Feb 18 (PTI) The US based Maxx Medical todaylaunched ''Freedom Total Knee system'' designed for Asianpatients.

Talking to reporters at the launching ceremony here,Vivek Shah, Regional Director of the company said, "the highflexion knee replacement system has been specificallyengineered to address the demand for smaller sized anddifferently proportioned implants to support the Indian lifestyle."

There are more than 165 million people above the ageof 65 years suffering from arthritis in India and this systemwill be very useful to them, Shah said.

According to Shah, Freedom knee has been designedkeeping in mind the specific requirements of Asian patients.

Shah pointed out that currently available kneereplacement systems are based on western anatomy dimensions.

"Our research team worked for more than five years,using powerful computing technology and world class testingfacilities to develop a system which will provide perfect fitfor the Asian Knee anatomy," Shah said adding the Freedom kneesystem has approval from the US FDA. PTI COR
