Two Maoists arrested by Police in West Midnapore

West Midnapore, Feb 19 (ANI): West Bengal Police has taken into its custody two Maoists and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition.

After the arrest of the two Maoists on Friday, the police said most of the arms and ammunitions they seized were looted from camps of the joint forces.

"The operation was mainly conducted in and around two villages, Bera and Baghghora and the surrounding area, the surrounding forest around these villages. After the completion of the operation, the police, the joint forces they have succeeded in apprehending two Maoists," said Manoj Verma, Superintendent of Police, West Midnapore.

Verma added the two Maoists, named Bhim Baske and Ganesh Murmu, were close to the top Maoist cadres.

Among the seized arms and ammunitions were one INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) rifle and two magazines looted from Silda camp, one SLR (Self-loading rifle) looted from the EFR (Eastern Frontier Rifles) patrol party at Gidhni and one .303 rifle with its magazine, looted from a police station.

The police also recovered one 9 mm pistol, one single barrel rifle, 7 kilograms of explosives, 5 socket landmines, 8 detonators, 4 flash guns, one camera, a number plate of a vehicle, torch, cell phones, besides materials for making explosives and medicines. (ANI)
