Teesta demands FIR against Modi in Gulbarg society case
Jalna(MAHA), Feb 18(PTI) Human rights activist TeestaSetalvad has demanded that the first information report (FIR)be lodged against Gujarat Chief Minister Narandra Modi andothers in the 2002 Gulbarg Society massacre case in whichhundreds of people including former Congress MP Ehsan Jafriwere killed by rioting mob.
Setlvad who had come here to deliver a lecture told PTIthat the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team(SIT) held that Modi had failed to control the communal riots.
Criminal charges should be lodged against him on the basis ofthis report, she said.
On Communal Violence Bill being prepared by the Centre,Setalvad said that she has demanded the government to re-draftthe bill as it had some loopholes and hoped the governmentwould accept her demand.
She informed that the aim of the bill is to curbcommunal riots in the country and a provision had been made inthe bill for Centre''s direct interference in the riot-affectedarea in any part of the country so that paramilitary forcescould be deployed if communal violence gets prolonged.
