San Francisco, Feb 19: The world's favourite social networking platform, which boasts of more than 500 million users, Facebook, has decided to expand its relationship status offering. Facebook announced that it will add 'in a civil union' and 'in a domestic partnership' to its Relationship Status.

Facebook acknowledged the the urge of gay and lesbian couples to offer their relationship status in the platform. With this move, gay and lesbian couples can reveal their status to the public and can send a clear message about their identity.

Several gay and lesbian associations are happy with Facebook's decision. Some of the members said that Facebook sent a clear message in support of gay and lesbian couples to users across the globe.

Some of them opinionated that Facebook will help to grow the public support for same-sex marriage and to get recognition in various communities.
