RJD attacks NDA government for failure to tackle corruption

Patna, Feb 18 (PTI) The RJD today attacked the NDAgovernment for its "failure to tackle corruption and said thatrevenue worth crores of rupees were being lost annually fromnon-realization of taxes from vehicles in terms of VAT andothers from Dobhi checkpost in Bihar''s Gaya district owing tocollusion between officials and transporters."

"The state has been losing crores of rupees in terms ofrevenue collection from the said checkpost at Dobhi for pastmany years due to collusion between officials and transporterseven as the opposition had raised the issue in the statelegislature four years back and demanded action against thoseresponsible for causing loss of revenue to the state," the RJDspokesman Shakeel Ahmed Khan told reporters here.

The state government headed by the Chief MinisterNitish Kumar has shown "gross lack of seriousness" in crackingdown against the ''corrupt'' officials and transportersresponsible for causing revenue loss to the state despitegiving an assurance in this regard, he said.

Other than its failure to prevent loss of revenue fromDobhi check post, the state government also failed to carryout an assessment in this regard, Khan said.

Contrary to its ''tall'' speak on eradication ofcorruption, the state government appeared to be looking theother way even as the ''plunder of the state exchequer'' wasrampant in the state during the NDA rule, the RJD leader said.

The state government also appeared to be being ''soft''in taking action against the corrupt officials who have pumpedtheir ill gotten wealth in the real estate properties in thestate capital causing the prices of flats, apartments and landto go up manifold, Khan said.

"It was a known fact that the real estate price hasjacked up ever since the NDA government came to power in 2005as the corrupt politicians and officials amassed huge wealthfrom the central funds meant for development and welfareprojects," the RJD leader said.
