Haryana wants non-functional weapons for Rewari War Museum
Chandigarh, Feb 18 (PTI) The Haryana government todayrequested the Centre to allot non-functional weapons of thearmed forces for a newly-constructed war museum at Rewari.
In a letter to Defence Minister A K Antony, the stateFinance Minister Ajay Singh Yadav requested for allotment ofnon-functional weapons of the armed forces for Rezangla WarMuseum and Memorial at Rewari so that these could be used forpublic display, a press release said here.
Yadav said during the Chinese aggression in 1962, abattle was fought at Rezangla Ridge at a height of 16,000 feetin Ladakh region where 114 soldiers of Ahir Rifle Company of13 Kumaon Regiment -- most of whom hailed from Rewari,Mahendergarh and Gurgaon -- killed about 1,300 enemies.
He said to commemorate the sacrifice made by the soldiersfrom the area, Rezangla War Museum and Memorial -- inauguratedon November 18 last year by Chief Minister Bhupinder SinghHooda, was constructed.
