GJM lifts indefinite bandh for 4 days
Darjeeling (WB), Feb 18 (PTI) The Gorkha JanamuktiMorcha today announced lifting for four days from tomorrow itsindefinite bandh called in the Darjeeling Hills on February 9to protest against the police firing at Sipchu in Jalpaiguri.
Senior GJM leader Harkabhadur Chhetri announced atKumani that the bandh would be lifted from February 19 to 22to help people stock up food and other essential commoditiesand also because of the approaching secondary examinations.
The decision was taken after a GJM team led by generalsecretary Roshan Giri held talks with senior BJP leader andDarjeeling MP Jaswant Singh in Delhi, Chhetri said.
Meanwhile, normal life was paralysed in the DarjeelingHills for the 10th day today with vehicles off the road, shopsand markets remaining closed and no attendance in governmentoffices though there was no report of any untoward incidentfrom any part of the hills.
