Take care of human rights while fighting militants: Khoda

Srinagar, Feb 18 (PTI) Security agencies should take careof human rights while fighting militants in the Valley, Jammuand Kashmir police chief said today.

Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda, who chaired ahigh level security meeting of top officers of civiladministration, police and other security agencies, directedofficers to adopt a people friendly approach in securitymanagement.

The meeting of top security officers comes at a time whenthe police have been involved in a crackdown againstprotestors to ensure that there is no repeat of last year''ssummer unrest.

More than 100 civilians were killed when protests,triggered by the killing a teenage student in June last year,erupted in the Valley in 2010.

"DGP laid stress on maintaining strict vigil and cautionto thwart the evil designs of anti-national elements," apolice spokesman said.

A number of issues relating to overall security andmaintenance of law and order were discussed at the meeting.

"He (Khoda) asked the officers present in the meetingto adopt a public friendly approach while making security andother arrangements so that people do not face any problem. Hedirected the security agencies to take care of human rightswhile fighting militants," the spokesman said.
