YMA to keep a watch on repatriation of Bru refugees

Aizawl, Feb 17 (PTI) Young Mizo Association (YMA), theapex Mizo body, today said that the organisation would closelywatch the repatriation process of Bru refugees from six reliefcamps in North Tripura district.

Lalchungnunga, president of the central committee of theYMA, said that appropriate action would be taken if Brurefugees who are not bona fide residents of Mizoram were amongthose repatriated.

"The YMA would watch and wait till the repatriationprocess is over," Lalchungnunga said, adding that the YMA hasthe proof that the Brus left the state in 1997 followingorders issued by a Bru organisation.

Meanwhile, Sambhu Singh, joint secretary (NE) of theUnion Home Ministry, who visited one of the villages in Mamitwhere the refugees were resettled, expressed satisfaction overthe arrangements made by the Mizoram government.

Singh said that additional rice allocation for theresettled Bru refugees would be allotted to the state fromMarch.

He added that the repatriation process would be resumedafter the fund sanctioned by the Centre for the repatriationexpenses is credited in the Mizoram government account. PTIHCV
