Patna, Feb 17 (PTI) Buddhist spiriual leader, the DalaiLama, would felicitate ''Super 30'' founder Anand Kumar, whoseinitiative has helped many students from underprivilegedsections of the society crack the IIT-JEE, in Mumbai onFebruary 19.
The programme has been organised by the Mumbai chapter ofBihar Foundation at Parel Ground in Mumbai where the DalaiLama would also be delivering a discourse.
Foundation spokersperson Ragini Gautam said Anand had beeninvited to the programme for his work with the poor.
"Anand''s initiative has made a big difference to theirlives . The foundation also works for the poor. The Dalai Lamawill give him a memento," she said.
She claimed it was the first time that the Dalai Lamawould speak at a public forum to review the Buddhist linksbetween Bihar and western India.
When contacted, Anand said he was happy with the honour.
"The Dalai Lama''s blessings will help me work more. Suchhonours inspire me, but also adds up the responsibility to domore for society", he said.
In 1994, Anand had missed the opportunity to study inCambridge due to financial constraints. Later, he set upRamanujan school of Mathematics to help poor children.
In 2002, he started Super 30 programme to provide freecoaching, food and stay to the meritorous students from underpriviledged sections of the socieity and in the last eightyears, 212 students from Super 30 have made it to the IIT-JEE.
Time magazine declared Super 30 the best in Asia, whileNewsweek selected it as among the four most innovativeschools in the world.
The Bihar Foundation, launched in 2008, is an attemptof the Bihar government to provide a socio-cultural platformfor the Diaspora nationally as well as globally and hadsteadily growing membership from alll section of the society.
