Sapling from Anuradhapuram Mahabodhi banyan tree brought

Gaya, Feb 16 (PTI) A sapling from the ''original''Mahabodhi banyan tree at Anuradhapuram in Sri Lanka was todaybrought here for plantation at famous Mahabodhi temple in BodhGaya in Bihar''s Gaya, official sources said.

Srinivasan and Asgiri Mahanayak Bhanate, chief priestsof Anuradhapuram Mahabodhi temple at Anuradhapuram, broughtthe sapling from Sri Lanka to here by a special plane, sourcessaid, adding a religious procession was brought out fromMahabodhi society of India in Bodh Gaya to Mahabodhi templecarrying the sapling.

"Now now it is for the state government and the BodhGaya Temple Management Committee to decide where the saplingwill be planted," they revealed.
