NCW seeks stringent action in dal scam in Orissa
Bhubaneswar, Feb 16 (PTI) Voicing concern over thesupply of rotten pulses to children and pregnant women inOrissa, the National Commission for Women (NCW) today demandedstringent action against those involved in the irregularities.
"I will ask the state government to throughly probein to the matter and ensure strong punishment to the peopleresponsible for feeding contaminated dal to pregnant women andkids," NCW chairperson Girija Vyas told reporters here.
Stating that the NCW would think about setting up acommittee to look into the supply of rotten dal to women inthe state, Vyas said, "Whoever probes in to the matter, theguilty must be punished".
"We should not hide facts about this matter as it hasaffected the health of pregnant and lactating women," she saidreplying to a question as to why the NCW remained silent overthe issue that affected health of over 50 lakh women.
The NCW chairperson said investigating agencies shouldgo deep into the matter and catch the real culprits in the dalscandal.
