Musharraf smoked cigars and had coffee with Zardari even after Benazir's assassination
Karachi, Feb 17(ANI): Former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has said that he had meetings with Asif Ali Zardari even after former prime minister Benazir Bhutto's assassination.
Musharraf said during a SAMAA TV programme that he had meetings with Benazir's widower Zardari, which lasted for hours and in which they smoked cigars and had coffee together.
Had Pakistan People's Party leader Benazir and Pakistan Muslim League-N chief Nawaz Sharif not returned to the country, the Pakistan Muslim League-Q would have won the elections, the former military ruler said.
All things went wrong after Benazir's assassination, he added.
Benazir was targeted in a gun and bomb attack as she was leaving Liaqat Bagh in Rawalpindi after addressing a public rally on December 27, 2007.
Musharraf wanted to rule a civilian government for five years, as he was a popular politician till March 2007, he said, adding that his popularity was destroyed after he sacked Pakistan's Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Choudhary on the charges of misconduct and misuse of authority. (ANI)
