Misings in Assam celebrate Ali Aye Ligang festival
Guwahati, Feb 17 (ANI): Thousands of people celebrated the traditional Ali Aye Ligang festival in Guwahati in Assam.
It is the main festival of the ethnic Mishing community of the region, in which they perform traditional rituals and dances.
P. C. Doley, a local, said the festival is celebrated on the first Wednesday of the Phagun month, which starts from mid-February.Ali Aye Ligang is a traditional festival of Mishings, the second largest tribe of Assam. This cultural festival is usually observed on the first Wednesday of Phagun (mid-February) month and is uniformly celebrated by Mishings in Assam," said Doley.
Young boys and girls, dressed in traditional attire, danced to the tunes of traditional musical instruments and drumbeats.
Misings want to preserve the traditional values and pass them to the next generation.
"It's really nice because those who are pursuing studies outside Assam visit the region on the occasion of Ali Aye Ligang and enjoy being a part of it. It's an occasion to meet people and have a get-together with them", said Alka Kutum.
The Ali Aye Ligang also marks the beginning of sowing season.(ANI)
