Hotel fire in Guadalajara, Mexico kills one, injures 20

GUADALAJARA, M: At least one person was killed and 20 others injured during a fire that broke out in a Mexican hotel, which is currently under construction, officials said Wednesday.

A small spark caused a strong explosion after it reached two gas tanks in Guadalajara, Jalisco's Hotel Riu. The explosion killed one man, who is estimated to be 25 years old. He was found with third degree burns on 75 percent of his body, officials said.

Furthermore, three of the 20 injured are in critical condition with burns covering 25 to 45 percent of their bodies.

At least 8 people have died during the construction of the hotel. Other deaths have been caused by falls or due to its inadequate working conditions. In addition, workers have been prohibited from speaking to the media.
