Five poachers surrender
Golaghat(Assam), Feb 17 (PTI) Five poachers allegedlyinvolved in the killing of nine rhinos in and around KazirangaNational Park have surrendered before the Golaghat districtadministration, official sources said here today.
The poachers also deposited five country-made guns and apowerful grenade at a function held at Bongkual area of thedistrict yesterday in the presence of district DeputyCommissioner N M Hussain, Superintendent of Police MadanChetia and Divisional Forest Officer Rajen Chaudhury said.
The district officials also appealed to other peopleinvolved in poaching to follow the example of the surrenderedpoachers who have been assured of proper rehabilitation.
An environment-related NGO, Rhino Jagaran Mancha, wasinstrumental in bringing the poachers to the mainstream,the sources added.
