BJP asks govt to ensure release of arrested Indian fishermen
New Delhi, Feb 16 (PTI) BJP today demanded prompt actionby the government in ensuring release of 118 fishermenarrested by the Sri Lankan Navy, saying the entire country is"concerned" about their plight.
Asking Sri Lanka to take a "considerate view" on theissue, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swarajsaid the neighbouring country should release the fishermenconsidering the "good relations" between the two countries.
Swaraj was addressing a demonstration held by the partyoutside the Sri Lankan High Commission.
The Indian fishermen entered the Lankan territory due tostrong winds. The Sri Lankan government should takeconsiderate and human view to such incidents, she saiddemanding prompt action by the Centre on the issue.
The Government should act fast to safeguard the interestand lives of Indian fishermen, she said.
Swaraj had voiced concern over the recent killing of twoIndian fishermen allegedly by Sri Lankan Navy to the country''sHigh commissioner Prasad Kariyawasam when he met her lastweek.
