Stop supply of substandard dal under MDM, SNP: Rights panel

Bhubaneswar, Feb 15 (PTI) Asking the state governmentto immediately stop supply of substandard pulses under mid-daymeal and supplimentary nutrition programme, Orissa State HumanRights Commission (OSHRC) today sought a detailed report onirregularities within 10 days.

The rights panel''s direction to the secretary of Womenand Child Development department came following a petitionfiled by the state unit of BJP.

"The commission has directed the state government toimmediately stop supply of rotten and infected dal under MDMand SNP as it affects rights to health of beneficiaries," saidJustice R K Patra, the chairperson of OSHRC.

The factual report would include details on the supply ofdal to schools and anganwadi centres where children andpregnant women were being fed rotten and infected pulsesunder MDM and SNP.

The commission, however, did not give any remark onthe BJP''s request for investigating the alleged scam.

Meanwhile, opposition Congress and BJP demandedstringent action and criminal proceedings against all thoseinvolved in the scam.
