Ornaments weighing 60 sovereigns stolen from ladies'' hostel
Coimbatore, Feb 16 (PTI) A gang entered a ladies hostel atVadavalli in the city and after threatening some inmates atknife point, decamped with some cash and gold ornamentsweighing 60 sovereigns, in the early hours of today.
Police said four persons, covering their facewith clothes, entered the hostel, run by a couple, by breakingopen the front door at 3.30 AM and knocked at the door to thehostel, where the woman-owner was sleeping.
As she refused to open the door, they went to the top floorand broke open a door and after threatening a student, removedher ornaments, laptop and mobile phone, police said.
Hearing the sound the owner came to the spot and thegang threatened her with knives and removed ornaments worn byher.Similarly, they forcibly opened another room and askeda student to part with her jewels, at knifepoint, police said.
Sniffer dog and finger print experts were engaged anda special team formed to catch the gangsters, police said.
