Muttemwar asks Chavan to convince Infosys to shift to Nagpur
Nagpur, Feb 15 (PTI) Former Union Minister and MP VilasMuttemwar has urged Maharashtra Chief Minister PrithivirajChavan to make efforts to bring I-T giant Infosys, which isplanning to shift its base from Bangalore to Pune, to thecity.
"As you are aware, Pune is already an industrial hub ofautomobiles and has many heavy and large scale industries.
Therefore it may not be able to cope up with the requiredinfrastructure there," Muttemwar said in a letter to Chavan.
In Pune, there is already a great stress on elementaryinfrastructure like water, electricity, drainage and localtransport system. Shifting of Infosys to Pune will add to thecity''s problems, he said.
As a matter of principles, there needs a balanced growthof all regions in Maharashtra, he added.
Muttemwar said Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawarhas expressed his reservations about Pune.
Nagpur is centrally located and has reasonably good urbaninfrastructure like housing, medical and education facilitiesand the multi-modal international passenger and cargo hub iscoming to city with a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), he said.
Hence, Chavan should convince Infosys to shift to Nagpurinstead of Pune, the letter added.
