Man gets two years'' RI for rape

Balaghat (MP), Feb 16 (PTI) Sessions court here awardedtwo years'' rigorous imprisonment to a man for raping a dalitwoman and shooting her obscene MMS clip.

According to the prosecution, Virendra Ranglani, theaccused, lured the woman with a promise to marry her. He tookher to a hotel in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, and raped her onJune 18, 2008.

After the woman lodged a complaint, charge-sheet wasfiled against Ranglani under Scheduled Caste and ScheduledTribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, apart from relevantsections of Indian Penal Code.

Special Judge Dilip Kumar Mishra yesterday sentencedRanglani to two years'' RI and also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000on him. However, a co-accused, one Prateek Tiwari, wasacquitted for lack of evidence.
