Constable who joined militant outfit dismissed
Shillong, Feb 15 (PTI) Constable Savio Marak, who fledhis company along with arms and joined a militant outfit lastmonth, was today dismissed from service by Meghalaya Police.
"As no inquiry is possible, he has been summarilydismissed from service today," an official source said.
Constable Marak had deserted his company deployed inthe ethnic-violence hit Mendipathar area of East Garo Hillsdistrict last month.
He had fled his company with one INSAS rifle of hisown and another of a colleague and around 60 rounds ofammunition.
One of the rifles was recovered from a villager, PutinMarak, at Thaba Danengeni in the district later. Putin, fromwhom police also found 17 rounds of ammunition and a magazine,was arrested.
Marak has reportedly joined the Garo NationalLiberation Army, a nascent Garo militant group floated by adeserter Deputy Superintendent of Police of Meghalaya Police,Champion Sangma, who also was dismissed.
The group, having links with bigger outfits like ULFAand NDFB, is blamed for rampant extortion in kidnappings inthe three districts of Garo hills.
