Agencies welcome to verify accounts, says Kalaignar TV

Chennai, Feb 16 (PTI) Days after denying links with the2G spectrum scam, DMK''s first-family owned Kalaignar TV todaysaid the respective agencies, including CBI, were welcome toverify its documents and accounts if they wanted.

"We had already clarified that there is no link betweenthe 2G spectrum allocation done in 2007-08 and the loantransaction that took place between Kalaignar TV and CineyugFilms Private Limited in 2009," the channel''s ManagingDirector Sharad Kumar said.

He said despite this, the CBI had mentioned about thetransaction in court.

"If the CBI or Income Tax department have any doubt, theycan check and verify accounts and documents of Kalaignar TV.

We have no objection," he said in a statement here.

The CBI had alleged that there was a connection betweenaccused Shahid Usman Balwa-promoted Swan Telecom and thechannel.

Balwa was allegedly favoured by former Telecom Minister ARaja in grant of UAS licence and scarce radio waves, accordingto submission made by CBI in a Delhi court while seekingfurther remand of Raja recently.

Kumar recalled his earlier statement and said when therewas a difference in the evaluation of shares, Kalaignar TVreturned Rs 200 crore that it had received from Cineyug Filmstill August 2009.

He said the channel had also returned (to Cineyug Films)an interest of Rs 31 crore for the sum received and all thesetransactions took place with the knowledge of IT departmentand relevant taxes had been paid.
