Pak could receive $3.1 billion in aid from US

President Obama has proposed the assistance for building a secure, stable and democratic Pakistan. $1.9 billion of the aid is expected to help the Pakistani Government counter radical elements and focus on the development of the nation.
The other $1.2 billion will be obtained from the Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO) budget, the allocation of which during the year 2010 was $79 million. This amount is expected to train and equip the Pakistani army to tackle insurgents in its cross border operations in Afghanistan.
US has named Pakistan as an important ally in its war against terror. Let us hope that the aid is utilised in a constructive process and is not passed on to elements who have hate-agendas of their own.
