MWC: Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1- Specs & Review

Barcelona, Feb 15: Tablet lovers have been blessed with variety of choices available in the market. Although many of us are still waiting for the launch of the much rumored iPad 2, the new tablet launched by Samsung - yes, the same brand that consumed the iPad's market - will make us change our minds. It is about time that we take a closure look at the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Samsung has announced the launch of its Galaxy Tab 2, which is also called Galaxy Tab 10.1, at the 2011 Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. Samsung aims to get an upper hand in tablet market that is presently controlled by Apple's iPad. Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be hitting the markets by Mar 2011 and will offer direct competition to Motorola Xoom tablet.

Samsung has upgraded their first tablet, Galaxy Tab, with a 'tablet only' operating system, Android 3.0 Honeycomb, and has also increased the screen size from seven inches to 10.1 inches. Although the new Galaxy Tab 10.1 will have a bigger screen than the iPad, it will be lighter and thinner.

The Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS is powered with a Tegra 2 processor, which makes it a powerful rival to Motorola Xoom and HP TouchPad. The new Galaxy Tab boasts of an eight megapixel (MP) camera at rear and supports eight megapixel playback and recording. Another two MP camera is available at front for video calling.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 will be available with 16 gigabyte (GB) and 32 GB memory capacity. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and USB 2.0.

Samsung is yet to announce the official release date and the price of Galaxy Tab 10.1. We can expect this new tablet to hit the Asian and European markets by March 2011. The launch and price in Indian market are not yet available. Stay tuned for more updates.
