Four held, alcohol worth Rs one crore seized
Lucknow, Feb 15 (PTI) Four persons were today arrestedfor smuggling liquor worth over Rs one crore from a distilleryin connivance with excise officials in Sitapur district, asenior police official said here.
"Sidhauli police intercepted a tanker bearing thelabel of kerosene oil, but 12,000 litres of liquor wasrecovered from the container during the search," SpecialDirector General (Law and Order) Brij Lal told reporters.
Driver Virendra Kumar Yadav, Anant Maurya, VikramPrasad Kushwaha and assistant manager of the distilleryDheeraj Kumar, who were travelling in the tanker, have beenarrested, Lal said.
"During interrogations, it was revealed that thearrested persons in connivance with the excise officials weresmuggling liquor from Biswan to Gorakhpur," the SDG said.
Assistant excise commissioners Bacha Lal and OliverSingh were previously posted as excise inspector at thedistillery.
"These two officers took money from the smugglers,"Lal added.
