''Puducherry makes progress only when Cong is in power''

Puducherry,Feb 13 (PTI):The Congress-led UPA government hasbeen very compassionate in providing funds to ensure basicamenities for Puducherry, PWD Minister M O H F Shahjahan saidhere today.

Declaring open a community hall in Kurinji Nagar in Lawspet(the constituency he represents) he claimed Puducherry hasmade progress only when Congress was in power here and at theCentre. Budgetary allocations was now around Rs 3000 crore asagainst Rs 1250 crore some years back.

"This shows how compassionate and responsive the UPAgovernment at the Centre is towards Puducherry and howconscious they are of the people''s requirements," he said.

Shahjahan also had a dig at the opposition wooing voterswith several promises in the run up to the assembly polls, duein May and said the people are very discerning and would notbe lured by such assurances. PTI COR APR
