Madurai Collector warns milk producers
Madurai, Feb 14 (PTI) Following shortage of milk inMadurai AAVIN due to decline in procurement following thestrike called by Tamil Nadu Milk Producers WelfareAssociation, the District Collector has warned of stringentaction against those selling milk to private dairies.
In a press statement, C Kamaraj said farmers of Maduraiand Theni districts and self help groups have been sellingmilk to private dairies and this was a punishable offenceaccording to the sub rules in the Food Adulteration Act.
Kamaraj said a special team had been set up to check theirregularities and advised all union functionaries and SHGs tosell their product to the District Co-operative MilkProducers'' Union, failing which criminal actions would betaken by the police.
The milk producers are on strike demanding increasedprocurement price for their product. They want a hike of Rseight per litre for buffalo''s milk and Rs 5 per litre forcow''s milk.
