Dalit student suicide: Father files complaints to NHRC, NCSC
Muzaffarnagar, Feb 13 (PTI) The family of a dalitstudent of IIT Roorkee, who allegedly committed suicide byjumping from the hostel, has filed complaints to NHRC andNational Commission for Scheduled Castes blaming the policefor not registering a case.
Rajender Kumar, the father of the deceased, yesterdayalleged that police did not register a case under pressurefrom the institute despite that the family had made acomplaint.
He also claimed that casteist remarks were made bysome senior students against his son. The family had informedto authorities of the institute about the incidents but it wasof no avail, the distraught father said.
Manish Kumar, a third year student from the district,had allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the fifthfloor of the hostel on February 6.
