227 arrested, 16,000 litres illicit arrack seized
Nagapattinam, Feb 13 (PTI): A total of 227 persons,including 40 women were arrested and 16,000 litres of illicitarrack seized from Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur and Thanjavurdistricts in a two day drive by Prohibition Enforcement Wingwhich ended yesterday, officials said.
PEW Additional Director General of Police C K Gandhirajan,in a press release warned of stringent action againstoffenders and said they would be booked under Goondas Act.
In 2010, a total of 96,615 cases were registered in TamilNadu and 95414 persons, including 13180 women were arrested inconnection with various prohibition related offences, he said.
Till February 11 this year,11294 cases have been registeredand 11,424 persons, including 1512 women arrested, he said.
