Zardari, Gilani meet to discuss Pak-US relations, Davis case
Islamabad, Feb 13(ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani met with President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday at the President House in Islamabad to discuss key issues.
According to the Dawn, Pakistan-US relations, political and economic situation of the country, Raymond Davis case, Round Table conference and portfolio of the Foreign Minister were discussed in the meeting.
Sources said that Gilani told Zardari that the judiciary would decide the issue upon the diplomatic immunity issue and the future of Davis.
The Prime Minister also briefed Zardari about the Round Table Conference, and said that it would be a major breakthrough.
During the meeting, both leaders also discussed the absence of former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the new cabinet and talked about the related consequences.
According to earlier reports, the US has warned that the Pak-US high-level dialogue would be at risk unless Pakistan releases Davis, and also threatened to cut aid to Pakistan in that case.
Despite the US insisting that Pakistan should free Davis as he is entitled to "full immunity from criminal prosecution by Pakistan" under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961, he was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days on Friday, with the next hearing due on February 25. (ANI)
