India can become world's food basket in next two decades: Scindia
New Delhi, Feb 13 (ANI): India can become the food basket of the world in the next two decades, said Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jyotiraditya Scindia.
Addressing a function here on Sunday, Scindia stressing on the need for inclusive growth and moving up the value chain, emphasised that to uplift the overall growth of the economy, the agriculture sector should grow at atleast 4.5 to five percent.
The Minister, however, pointed out that the country should focus on processing of agricultural products for this to happen.
Union Commerce Secretary Rahul Khullar, who was also present on the occasion, said the industry should move beyond increasing agricultural productivity and focus on addressing technical and quality issues in the food processing industry. (ANI)
