Ballot for election of state Bar Council on March 4

Chennai, Feb 12 (PTI): There is a proposal to introducephoto attached ballot paper for the State Bar Council poll ofTami Nadu and Puducherry, scheduled to be held on March 4, atop official said.

Speaking to reporters after notifying the candidates�s list,Dakshanamoothy, Returning officer and Secretary of Bar Councilof Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, said there are 172 candidates inthe fray for election of 25 members. About 53,000 voters willvote in 172 centres in the state.

"There are a number of candidates with the same names. Thismay mislead voters. Threfore we are contemplating printingphotos of the candidates in the Ballot Papers.�

R K Chandramohan, former chairman of Tamil Nadu-PuducherryBar council and R Dhanpal Raj, Vice Chairman of Bar Council ofIndia and S Prabakaran,President of Tamil Nadu advocatesAssociation, are prominent among those in the fray.

The Madras High Court has already appointed retired HighCourt Judge, Justice K P Sivasubramaniam, to oversee andmonitor election of members to the Bar Council of Tamil Naduand Puduchery.
