Authorities on alert to avoid repeat of Bareilly incidents

Faizabad, Feb 12 (PTI) Keen on avoiding a repeat ofviolent incidents during an ITBP recruitment rally inBareilly, the administration is taking a series of steps for asimilar camp by the Army in the district.

A joint review meeting of administrative, police andarmy officials was convened today by District Magistrate MPAgrawal to chalk out a plan for the week-long exercise.

"The recruitment will be concluded in a peacefulmanner as we have worked out every possibility," Agrawal said.

Sources said that the army authorities had beenrequested to call aspirants from one district per day forrecruitment into the Dogra regiment.

However, according to administrative sources, theauthorities have expressed their inability to make such anarrangement.

According to army sources, they are expecting 5,000 to6,000 aspirants daily but the administration maintains thatthe figure can climb to 15,000.

"We are alert and all the concerned authorities havebeen asked to make adequate arrangements," said an official oncondition of anonymity.

A couple of special trains and few dozens buses willbe arranged so that the aspirants may leave for their homedistricts soon after the trials, sources said.

Alleging inadequate arrangements, thousands of ITBPaspirants had gone on a rampage in Bareilly last month,setting afire vehicles and vandalsiing shops. At least 19youths were killed when they fell from atop a crammed trainwhile returning from the recruitmen camp.
