Undertrials escape, three jail wardens suspended

Coimbatore, Feb 12 (PTI) Four undertrials escaped froma sub-jail at Pollachi near here early today through thebathroom sewer, prompting authorities to suspend three prisonwardens.

Two of the prisoners were, however, re-arrested thisafternoon.

The prisoners -Selvam and Satish of Salem, SyedIbrahim of Dharapuram and Komal Tirki of Orissa-- lodged inthe Porsel school attached to the sub-jail, 40 kms from here,escaped at 2 AM through a manhole in the bathroom, jailsources said.

Within hours of their escape, Komal and Satish werenabbed at Namakkal, some 180 kms from here, when they weretravelling in a lorry, they said.While Selvam, Satish and Syed Ibrahim were facingcases of theft, Komal was an accused in a murder case, theysaid.

Three jail wardens have been placed under suspensionfor negligence of duty, jail sources said.
