Modi inaugurates three day book reading camp
Ahmedabad, Feb 11 (PTI) Chief Minister Narendra Moditoday inaugurated the three day long state-level camp of thewinners of-Vanche Gujarat-a book reading competition, at theMahatma Mandir here today.
As many as 1,100 winners were selected from 15 lakhstudents who took part in the district level competitions heldearlier, across the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Modi said the campaign toinculcate habit of book reading has gathered momentum and hasemerged as a peoples'' movement.
It is a matter of pride that 20 lakh students across25,000 schools in the state have read close to one crore booksduring the Vanche Gujarat campaign, he said.
He said the other benefit of the book reading campaignhas been prompting the students to think beyond theirtextbooks and learnt ways to face the world.
Three girl students who have read more than 1,500books presented some books as mementos to the Chief Minister,on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion the State Education MinisterRamanlal Vora said, "credit for launching this novel bookreading campaign goes to Modi. It will help the students inbecoming better citizens." PTI VKB PD
