Indore, Feb 12 (PTI) Advocating stringent provisionsin the Lokpal Bill, the first woman IPS officer Kiran Beditoday said corruption can''t be dealt with weak laws.
"We have to see what sort of Lokpal Bill theGovernment is going to bring this time. There is a need for astringent Lokpal Bill to create fear among corrupt people,"she told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.
The Bill seeks to create the institution of anombudsman to tackle political corruption.
"Corruption was on the rise as there was neither fearnor tough punishment for those indulging in it," Bedi said andpointed out loopholes in the present set of laws.
Underlining the importance of media in fight againstgraft, the retired IPS officer said it should play a majorrole in campaigns against the menace.
Accusing the IAS officers of committing irregularitiesin the disbursement of relief amount to the victims of the1984 Bhopal gas tragedy, Bedi asked media persons whether theywant such officers and politicians to grow.
The former top cop is in the city to promote Aap KiKachehri'', a reality TV show that solves disputes in which sheplays the arbitrator.
